Mrs. Amy M. Nelson
Mrs. Nelson is the teacher librarian at Holy Name School. She started at Holy Name in August 2012. Mrs. Nelson grew up in Indiana and joined the United States Air Force one year after high school. She met her husband while they were both stationed in Turkey. He grew up on a farm in South Dakota, so they moved to Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue to be closer to family when they began their own family.
Mrs. Nelson graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha Summa cum Laude with a degree in elementary education and a library media endorsement in May 2011. While at UNO she tutored math and geometry and received the Future Leader in Mathematics Education award. She is a member of Golden Key National Honor Society, Metropolitan Reading Council, Nebraska State Reading Association, International Reading Association, American Library Association, American Association of School Librarians, Nebraska School Librarians Association, National Council of Teachers of English, and Nebraska Educational Technology Association. She previously substituted in Omaha Public Schools and Bellevue Public Schools.
Mrs. Nelson believes that all children can learn and have much to offer. We have different family backgrounds, cultures, languages, and abilities, and we have opportunities to grow and learn from each other in an organized, respectful, learning community. Mrs. Nelson loves to watch students’ faces light up when they talk about a great book they read or are about to read and shares their excitement about learning.
